Getting Married at one of our churches
We're glad that you are considering getting married at one of our churches. We hope we can help you have a very special wedding day. As you are choosing to get married in church, we also hope that we can help you to make God a part of your marriage too.
To make the arrangements, contact Tricia, our Administrator (), who will help you to book a date and time and tell you what you need to do next.
You will be invited to attend a Marriage Preparation day. This is a one day course, on a Saturday with lunch provided. You will be offered a choice of dates in the months running up to your wedding. The day is a relaxed and friendly time with other couples where you can do some thinking together about your hopes and expectations for marriage. We hope it will help you to give your marriage a solid foundation.
If you are marrying at St Mary's Tadcaster, our wedding co-ordinator, Val Simpson, will be in touch with you to complete the paperwork and will help you to plan the service, including music, flowers and any special requirements you may have.
For the other 3 churches, you will be contacted by our vicar or curate, who will meet with you to help plan your service and fill out all the paperwork.
I have been married before. Can I get married in church?
We are prepared to consider marrying those whose previous marriages have broken down. You will need to have an in-depth interview with the vicar before we will confirm your wedding booking - but please first book a provisional date with the administrator.
I don't live in your parishes. Can I get married here?
If you have a historic connection to one of our churches....you were baptised here, or your parents or grandparents married here...or have lived in the parish for 6 months at any time, you are entitled to marry in one of our churches. This is called a Qualifying Connection. There are other connections, so do ask to see if you qualify.
Must I marry in my parish church?
Because we are a United Benefice, you can choose not to marry in the parish in which you actually live, but can marry in any of our four churches. So you might live in Tadcaster, but are planning a small, intimate ceremony and might prefer to hold it at one of our smaller churches such as Kirkby Wharfe or Newton Kyme. Or you might live in one of the villages, but be planning on inviting 300 guests...you might want to consider holding the ceremony at Tadcaster!
